UPDATES 2-10-2008
Thank you so much for visiting our site!
We appreciate all of your continuing support of Lauren. While she has
many challenges, she also has so many accomplishments each week to
celebrate too. Lauren turns 2 on Thursday, 2/28!
We went to Wisconsin Dells with the majority of
the Nardulli family over President's Day weekend.
We were wondering how Lauren would react because she
has not been a fan of water for most of her life.
She also was not able to get in the water for over a
year after getting her g tube because the site took
so long to heal. Lauren was just cleared a few
months ago for tub baths again and only recently was
starting to be curious enough to make a splash in
her small tub. She preferred to do this while
sitting on the outsite of the tub though! Lauren
was a little nervous with the water at the Dells at
first and did not like getting splashed in the face
at all. She did like the zero-depth kids play area
because she could crawl in at her own pace to warm
up to it. The Occupational Therapist explains our
strategy with Lauren as "systemized
desensitization". Lauren is all about doing things
herself and engaging on her own schedule.
Therefore, we were excited just to see
her even get into the water at all. By the last
day, Grandma Nardulli was holding her in the big
pool and Lauren seemed to really enjoy it. That is
such a huge success for Lauren!
On the medical front, Lauren was scheduled to have
new ear tubes and a frenulectomy (tongue clipping to
allow for more tongue range of movement when eating
and speaking) done this Wednesday (2/27) at
Children's downtown. However, she was just
diagnosed with a sinus infection on Monday and will
have only had 2 days of antibiotics prior to the
surgery. We are still waiting to hear from the
surgeon at Children's to see if that will need to be
postponed due to possible complications with
anesthesia.
Thanks!
Amy
